Omnisphere: My go-to for pads and ambient textures. Have barely scratched the surface of this. In addition to Logic 9's instruments and effects (Ringshifter, ES1, and Space Designer are favourites), I've got. To hear that the IRCAM stuff is awesome = good news! I think I'm going to buy that thing as soon as I have the time to sit down with it properly for a few days. I wouldn't say "warmer", if you want "warmer", get a hardware sampler. Where they differ is quality of filters and effects, so of course they're going to sound different. gain staging, they will sound the same (tested it, they nulled). If you load the same sample in Kontakt and MF3 and set them up to be exactly the same w.r.t. It's a completely different beast, you need to have both if you're into S&S. However, it's not a direct replacement for Kontakt nor will it ever be. If you plan on using a LOT of MF3 stuff, you better get at least 16 GB of RAM and a really fast CPU, then spread out instruments over multiple MF3 instances, since there's no multicore handling of parts within MF3 (like Kontakt has). It's great as a desert island synth, even at its high CPU and RAM price. overall quite higher CPU (because of lack of multicore) and especially RAM usage, Kontakt is still the king as far as this is concerned But I hear things might improve in the future with regards to this streaming engine is OK, but doesn't support very low DFD buffers like Kontakt is -> not so good for SSD drives. + scripting language is a lot more capable, which also comes at a slight CPU price I presume + IRCAM stuff is awesome, but very CPU intensive + synthesis engines (even though VA waveforms can alias up high, especially with hardsync) + modulation shapers are much more flexible and precise than in Kontakt (plus, they can be bipolar) + modulate pretty much almost anything (including instrument mute/solo, you can have a global LFO for several groups, etc) + fullscreenable GUI - no need to say anything else EvilDragon! how is the Motu Mach Five3 compared to Kontakt? It has it's pros and cons.
